Learn about the culture by participating in service and get connected to India’s local families, communities and organizations. We partner with a network of grassroots organizations in India working on social justice and environmental issues that would love your help in growing their work. What better way to have a rewarding cultural experience than by sharing your time to work on a community project and help one of our partner organizations in India.

We work with our partners in India to develop an experience that matches your needs, from setting up the project to organizing housing and cultural activities. Sarah Mitts, the co-founder of AWAZ Voice for Empowerment, began her journey in India with a volunteer experience during her Junior year of college. She has been working in India since 2005 and brings her years of experience, research and credibility to helping you develop a unique learning opportunity. A sample of projects could be:

Our main area of work is located in Dehradun, Uttarakhand in the foothills of the beautiful Himalayas in Northern India where most of our partner organizations work. Looking for a unique opportunity to experience India’s culture and spiritual traditions? We partner with 'Nisarg Anandam', a Dehradun-based organization led by Neena Kainthola, an experienced teacher of Indian Sanskrit and spiritual teachings. She has participated in cultural festivals across the UK teaching courses about India’s ancient teachings to help people today live a more balanced life complete with harmony and peace. We work with Neena to conduct our In Country Orientation and provide on site support to our programs. She now lives in India where she opens up her home and family to create an enriched learning experience for our guests in India. Her courses are available for extra charge upon request.

Intern with Us in Portland

We are looking for like minded individuals with a passion to serve and skills to contribute to join our team and help us in our efforts to create social change. If you’re a student looking for some work experience or an adult who would like to get more involved, we would love for you to consider an internship with us. Help with marketing or designing our Fair Trade line, Quickbooks Accounting, writing communications, coordinating with our partners in India or organizing community outreach activities.
