Born of a desire to reduce India's mountain of waste, improve energy efficiency, and help some of Delhi's poorest out of the city's slums, Conserve turns plastic bags and recycled waste materials into high fashion. Based out of New Delhi, Conserve is a registered Fair Trade hybrid organization with for profit and non profit arms that aim to promote environmental conservation in India and use waste as a resource for income generation for the urban underprivileged. They buy recycled plastic bags from ragpickers who collect waste from New Delhi’s streets and after being sorted and cleaned, use a unique, eco-friendly patented technology to turn the bags into plastic sheets for making purses, bags, and a variety of products. Their work is employing and training the most marginalized in Delhi and creating new wavelengths in waste management for India.
